Research of Investment Climate in Smolensk Region

The method of strategic planning was used for revealing and analyzing factors of the internal and external environments of Smolensk Region which can contribute to effective implementation of existing opportunities of the region. The strengths were, first of all, the advantageous economic and geographical position of Smolensk Region: proximity to Moscow metropolitan area and the border of the Russian Federation, developed transport infrastructure (car and railroad), presence of backbone oil and gas pipelines. Besides, the potential of the region is built up by a wealthy variety of cultural and historical values, ecologically clean territories, presence of raw material resources (forests, turf, natural stone), as well as reserves of agricultural lands.
