The notion “industrial park” is often used in Russia as a synonym to a warehouse or logistics centre; however, these facilities are just one of the elements of complete infrastructure of parks of such a kind.

Dynamics of the changing volume of accumulated foreign investment in Russian economy in 2005–2013 was characterized with positive growth rates. In 2013 the investment volume increased by 6%, comparing to the previous year, and amounted to 384.1 billion dollars.

Attracting investment is one of the priority tasks of current activity of regional governments. In 2013 the volume of capital investment in Russia amounted to 13.3 trillion rubles, having exceeded the last year’s figure by 5.6%. Four industries accounted for two thirds of the total volume: transport and communications; operations with real estate, leasing and rendering services; production of fossil fuels; gas and water production and distribution.

С некоторых пор особые экономические зоны перестали быть проектом, призванным стимулировать развитие определенных отраслей и направлений, гармонично трансформировавшись в инструмент общеэкономического роста как региона, так и всей страны. На начало 2014 года в России насчитывалось 370 компаний, являющихся резидентами ОЭЗ, заявленный объем инвестиций в которые составил 430 млрд руб.
